The 2007 annual business meeting of the WCHPS was held on-stage at the historic Smoot Theater, one of the most successful preservation/restoration projects for Parkersburg. Though the weather conditions could hardly have been worse, the back stage door admitted nearly forty historians, many carrying “tasty edibles” for our first ever, “dues-get-together”.
Felice Jorgeson, our host, had the stage set with decorated “tea-tables”. As the “finger-food” was enjoyed, our host, detailed the history of the Smoot Theater, and using a bit of show-and-tell, described how the stage props and curtains worked. By the time that the sweetest portion of our snacks were consumed, most of those attending knew “how the ropes are pulled”, and the meaning of terms such as “cyces”, “traveler” and “teaser”.
Following the “on stage lessons”, tours of the dressing rooms and the lofty projector room concluded the most informative evening.

On what was a most beautiful day for a parade, the WCHPS joined in the traditional Christmas march down Market Street.
Carrying “larger-than-life” Christmas postcards from the past, thousands of local residents were wished a very Merry Christmas by Dr. Gillespie, Jeff and Sarah Little, Duncan, Mary, Beth and Becka Segrest, Andrew Cooper, Britney and Chris Dickerson, and Chris and Bob Enoch.
Umm Good! Barb Radiker, (left) and Gerry Kohler, (right) arrange some of the many “goodies” for the meeting at the Smoot as Bob Enoch observes and occasionally “tests for goodness”!
