Wood County Historical and Preservation Society
For those who didn't get to go to the "viewing" of the Blizzard Mansion prior to it being razed, the floor plans below will allow you and future generations to know more about how Judge Blizzard may have lived. The drawings were painstakingly done by Christy Little with "memory help" from Jenny Walton, a granddaughter of the Blizzards. In the last issue of H&P, members of our historical society were pictured removing large clay from the roof of the mansion.
As mentioned then, it was a job that we would have preferred not to have done. But, the home was going
to be razed and salvaging
whatever possible was far better than seeing it landfilled.
We are happy to report that our efforts and through the
generosity of Empire Builders and Bosley rentals, we have increased the Wood County Historic Cemetery Fund by
$1,500.
We are still able to offer a few of the red tile for sale as souvenirs for $5.00 each.
As often happens, usually
over a period of many years,
items placed in attics get
stuck here and there, boxes
separate and items such as
letters often fall "between
the cracks", lost and forgotten.
Reportedly, such an occurrence
happened in the
Blizzard Mansion as an early
1900's letter from Judge
Blizzard to his wife was supposedly
found. The letter offered
insight into the personal
life of Judge Blizzard.
Things That Get Left Behind.
