Though unable to attend WCHPS meetings for several years, when he was able John was an integral part of our group, always offering his assistance and resources to better the historical society.
Following his death in April of this year, his long-time friends and business partners, Vicki and Ken Sargeant followed John's wishes and presented the WCHPS with the check.
Though its use is not restricted, John loved South Parkersburg. Hopefully we can somehow promote the mostly unwritten history of that area.

ANOTHER WAY TO PRESERVE HISTORY
As has been stated before in H&P, there are numerous
ways that history can be preserved. Perhaps
one of the most efficient and long-lasting is
through the efforts of our educators as they instill
our history, both local and national, in the minds
of their students. The WCHPS has many present
and past teachers among our membership and we
take this opportunity to "THANK YOU ALL," for a
job well done!

May Picnic at Fort Boreman Park Well Attended.
never actually occurred, visitors to the battle-thatcould-
have-been witnessed battle tactics used during
the Civil War. The first year for this event did
very well. The battles were well attended and the
scores of re-enactors and their camp followers all
had a most enjoyable weekend.
Of special interest to those attending were the
camps of the opposing forces. Though Confederate
campsites far outnumbered those of the Union
troops, they were all interesting and very educational.
WCHPS Sends "Thanks" to Sen. Byrd
In a totally non-partisan, non-political letter,
composed by Sam Harford, our historical society
sent a "thank you for all you've done for West
Virginia" to Senator Robert C. Byrd.
Inspired by WCHPS member Eulah Mays, of
Albany, Ohio, Sam's letter recapped Senator
Byrd's political career, when he successfully ran
for the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1946.
